In a resounding endorsement, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Mr. Kayode Ajulo SAN, has lauded the appointment of Prof. Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Less than 24 hours after the announcement, Ajulo described Amupitan as a man of “high integrity” and “ethical standards.”

In a personal statement titled “A Life of Service, Integrity, Incorruptibility, and Excellence: Celebrating the Appointment of the ‘Rabbi of Leaders’ as INEC Chairman,” Ajulo reflected on his experiences as Amupitan’s student at the University of Jos, highlighting the appointee’s stellar character and professional excellence.

“This prestigious call to national service is a testament to your impeccable character, profound intellect, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law and participatory democracy,” Ajulo stated.

He reminisced about his time in the classroom, saying, “Your ability to illuminate complex legal doctrines into accessible wisdom not only shaped my academic journey but also deepened my respect for our democratic processes.”

Ajulo emphasized Amupitan’s integrity and ethical leadership as a powerful example for all. He noted that the new INEC Chairman’s remarkable journey—from a distinguished scholar to a revered Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria—has consistently exemplified excellence and service.

Highlighting Amupitan’s extensive accomplishments, Ajulo remarked, “Your unmatched capacity for service has seen you occupy several pivotal positions within and beyond the university system.” He detailed the new chairman’s roles, including serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos and as Pro-Chancellor of Joseph Ayo Babalola University.

Ajulo further commended Amupitan’s contributions to national policy and education governance, mentioning his involvement with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and the Council of Legal Education.

In recognition of his professional achievements, Ajulo noted that Amupitan was conferred with the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2014, the pinnacle of success in Nigeria’s legal profession. His influence extends into the private sector, where he has played significant roles in corporate governance.

As a prolific author, Amupitan’s works have become authoritative references in legal scholarship, further solidifying his reputation as a thought leader.

Concluding his statement, Ajulo expressed unwavering confidence in Amupitan’s leadership, stating, “INEC, under your guidance, will experience a new dawn of credibility, transparency, and efficiency.” He firmly believes that Amupitan’s tenure will strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system and restore public trust.

“Congratulations, sir, on this well-deserved appointment. May your stewardship mark a defining chapter in Nigeria’s democratic history,” Ajulo asserted.
